Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in November, 2006 and is a group of volunteers who crochet, knit or sew shoulder wraps (shawls) or lap coverings (blankets) to present to people who are in need of prayers. This could include someone who is sick, disabled, troubled, recovering from an operation, pregnant; a student going away to college, a family member in the military or someone who has recently experienced the death of a loved one…the list goes on. Each volunteer makes his or her creation while praying for the recipient and all past recipients of our prayer shawls, in a time and place that is convenient for them. Fr. John Kerber or another priest blesses them once a month during one of the various Masses. In addition, a Mass is said once a month for all Prayer Shawl recipients.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:00 PM in the Church basement. The meeting is designed so that we bring all of our creations (considered “hugs from God”) together to prepare them for blessing and to choose more yarn from that which has been donated and stored on the Church premises. The material used to make each shawl or lap blanket has either been donated or bought with monetary contributions from generous donors; this way the shawls and lap blankets are free to whoever is in need of one. Order forms can be found in the back of Church or you may call one of the Coordinators of our group for more information: Marilyn Brooking at (636) 931-6361 or Chris Burton at (636) 797-3407.
